night before my first day

the title of this post...WHAT EVEN?!?! i seriously cannot believe that today (it's currently 12:20am, so I'm considering it today) is my first day as an employee at WARNER/CHAPPELL. AKA. WARNER. MUSIC. GROUP. LIKE. WHAT??? as cliche and cheesy as this sounds, this is seriously a dream come true. i remember the very first time I came to Nashville and my family and I were walking down music row. i saw the big Warner building with all of the banners outside and said "I'm going to work there one day." and NOW look!! dreams DO come true!!

i thought the fact that I was interning at the company was crazy, and now I'm considered an employee. i really can't believe it. i have so many emotions running through me that I don't even really know what to feel!

didn't I just start interning, like, yesterday?

tomorrow, 10.27.16, marks my last day as an intern for Warner Music Group. wait...BACK UP. first of all, how is it almost the end of 2016???? secondly, I'm old enough to intern??? WAIT! i intern for Warner Music Group????? WHAT IS LIFE! i used to always get so excited at the thought of being an intern one day. it means you're kind of an adult, right? and when I found out that I would be going to school in Nashville (which, by the way, still blows my mind), I couldn't wait to intern for one of the amazing record labels, publishers, or managers in town.

once I finished all of the required classes for interning, I could not wait to start. i was thinking of places that I wanted to intern and realized that there were SO many opportunities. one day while working in the athletic department at Belmont, I was talking to one of the girls at the front desk with me and asked her where she was interning. she told me that she was interning for the copyright & licensing department at Warner/Chappell and I was like WHATTTTT??!?! that sounded absolutely amazing. at the time, I was really considering law school (still not completely out of the question) and that internship sounded perfect. lexie (the girl I was working with) was SO kind and said that she would give me her boss's email address so that I could reach out and tell her I was looking for an internship. she told me that internships for Warner were mostly given through word of mouth, so I was very thankful that she told me about it. i emailed Lu Ann Inman, the director of copyright and licensing, and it led to an interview. i was extremely nervous (as this was my first interview in the music industry) but it went fantastically and she hired me right on the spot.

sorry, I'm talking for too long again. well anyway, that internship started in January of 2016 and went until May. in one sense, it feels like I just started that internship but in another sense, it feels like it was ages ago. since I knew that I would be graduating in December, I knew that I HAD to stay in Nashville over the summer to intern. i was very lucky and got to be a creative intern at BMG. i really enjoyed my time there, the staff, and the work that I got to do.

okay I am going to stop there with talking about interning because 1) I'm super tired and 2) I want to talk about what happens next in my next blog post.

short story long, I can't believe that I'm old enough to intern, I can't believe that this is my third internship this year, and I can't believe that my last day as an intern is tomorrow. at 20 years old. at my dream company.

oh yeah...the reason it's my last day as an intern is because on Monday, 10.31.16, I will be starting at Warner/Chappell as an EMPLOYEE!!!!!!! WHAT?!?!!!?!?!!

i don't deserve this and I really don't know how I got so dang lucky.

okay. goodnight :)

here goes nothing

hey there. so for years (seriously YEARS) now, I have wanted to start a blog. i have always loved writing and thought that a blog would be a great place for me to talk about what's going on with my life, even if no one is reading it (it's probably better that nobody else reads it, anyway). i "started" a blog right before my freshman year of college in hopes that I would write about my college experience. well....that didn't really work out. i made two short posts before moving into my dorm and that's where it ended. now, just a little over 2 years later, I am less than 2 months away from GRADUATING and i thought that I should try again. a lot of big changes are about to take place in my life and I need to force myself to write about them because 1) I always feel less stressed out after I write and 2) I know I'll love looking back on this in the future.

i don't really have any rules for this blog. some of my posts might be super short, some might have pictures, some might be paragraphs full of things I'm stressed out about, some might be a sentence or two about my day. i hope to also have some posts that are filled with lessons learned and advice for myself (and I guess for anyone else who reads this). since my blog doesn't seem like it will be very structured, I decided to have at least one consistency: I will not start any sentences with a capital letter. this bothers some people, but this blog isn't theirs. it's mine. i bought it. (ok so it was free but WHO CARES??)

well, I feel like this little introduction post has gone on for too long so I'm gonna go start a new post with a specific topic.
